Tall Buildings in New York City, USA

During my sightseeing with friend Ritz in Nuremberg, we happened to meet this guy from New York City. He said that he was stopping Nuremberg for a connecting travel to Prague, Czech Republic to attend his friend's wedding day. He was also the best man of that said wedding. After some conversation we parted because we have to catch the train in going back home.

Don't you know that New York is the most populous city in the United States. There are a lot of skycrapers in New York. It has 5,538 highrise buildings, with 50 completed skyscrapers taller than 656 feet (200 m). The Willis Tower, formerly the Sears Tower which is a metal building was once the tallest building in the world when it was completed in 1974.

Some of the tallest buildings in New York City are Equitable Life Building (Destroyed by fire in 1912), New York World Building (Demolished in 1955), Manhattan Life Insurance Building (Demolished in 1930), Met Life Tower, 40 Wall Street, Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, World Trade Center (North tower, destroyed in 2001) and some other more.

The Statue of Liberty in New York, USA

The Statue of Liberty is the famou symbol of the United States of America. It is a gift to the United States from the people of France. The statue is situated in Upper New York Bay on Liberty Island, south of Ellis Island.

ORIGIN

The origin of the Statue of Liberty project is generally traced to a comment made by French law professor and politician Édouard René de Laboulaye in mid-1865. In after-dinner conversation at his home near Versailles, Laboulaye, an ardent supporter of the Union in the American Civil War, stated, "If a monument should rise in the United States, as a memorial to their independence, I should think it only natural if it were built by united effort—a common work of both our nations."

Laboulaye's comment was not intended as a proposal, but it inspired a young sculptor, Frédéric Bartholdi, who was present at the dinner. Given the repressive nature of the regime of Napoleon III, Bartholdi took no immediate action on the idea except to discuss it with Laboulaye. Instead, Bartholdi approached Ismail Pasha, Khedive of Egypt, with a plan to build a huge lighthouse in the form of an ancient Egyptian female fellah or peasant, robed and holding a torch aloft, at the northern entrance to the Suez Canal. Sketches and models were made of the proposed work, though it was never erected. There was a classical precedent for the Suez proposal, the Colossus of Rhodes: a bronze statue of the Greek god of the sun, Helios. This statue is believed to have been over 100 feet (30 m) high, and it similarly stood at a harbor entrance and carried a light to guide ships. more here

It was designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and dedicated on October 28, 1886. This monument is an iconic symbol of freedom which was a gift of the French people to the United States.

New York Sights I would Love To Visit

I always love to talk about my travel escapades in my blogs. It is because I would like to also share the beautiful and interesting places I had been too! Thanks to the blogosphere where we can share our travel experiences and images or anything that we would like to impart to our readers and viewers. That is also the reason why I am sharing this post to you.

I had been to the United States of America for two months last 2008. Being the third largest country by land area and population, I believed you cannot just tour it in just two months, also considering your finances. But I am happy to see a lot of Las Vegas and some places in California.

There are still a lot of cities and states that I would love to visit in the U.S. One of it is New York City. For sure, I need to search first a cheap plane ticket and an affordable hostel in New York whenever I will spend a vacation there in the future. With the many travel experiences I had, I am very optimistic that I can find one that fits my holiday budget.

A replica of the Statue of Liberty in New York-New York Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. I took this image during my vacation in this city last 2008.

Here are some of the New York Sights that I would love to see:

1. The Statue of Liberty

I just found some images of the Statue of Liberty in one of my friends in facebook. I envy her visiting this city. This statue has become an iconic symbol of freedom not only in New York but in the whole of United States as well. It is said to be a gift of French people to the U.S.. It has a colossal neoclassical architecture designed by Frederic Bartholdi in 1886. It is also included in the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There are a lot of replicas of Statue of Liberty that are found around the world. The one I saw are in Paris, France and Las Vegas, Nevada.

2. The Empire State Building

The American Society of Civil Engineers named this building as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. It is one of the famous landmark of New York City with a 102-story skycraper and a height of 381 meters or 1,250 feet. The Empire State Building is said to be the third tallest skyscraper in the United States after the Willis Tower and Trump International Hotel and Tower, both are located in Chicago.

3. The New York Times Square

It is formerly called Longacre Square. It is a major commercial district in Manhattan, New York City. Having the nicknames, "The Crossroads of the World" and "The Great White Way," it has become an iconic world landmark and considered to be the major tourist attraction of New York City and the United States.

I am quite sure that I will visit this city in the future. In God's will! How about you? Don't forget to browse for cheap New York hotels to spend your future wonderful vacation in this amazing city. I might see you there!
