The Great Sphinx of Giza in Luxor Las Vegas

I haven't seen the original Sphinx in   Giza, Egypt but at  least I saw  its replica in Luxor Las Vegas, Nevada. This historical monument patterned from Egypt is very interesting. I thought I can only watch it in Television but I had  truly  seen it in person. Although it is only a replica but I am still happy to see it  from  my naked eyes. I know one day, I can visit the real one in Egypt. It is  included in my travel wishlist.

Luxor Las Vegas is located in on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is a hotel and a casino. Its architecture was based in ancient Thebes, now the city of Luxor.

Great Sphinx of Giza and the Luxor Sky Beam, exterior view. I was there last 2008.

I had the pleasure to see this amazing monument and the  Luxor Sky Beam  which is the strongest beam of light in the world with 42.3 billion candlepower.

This Shop in Luxor Las Vegas

I did not really  go inside  this shop located in Luxor Las Vegas. I just observed that most of its products are for kids. No wonder the Scarab Shop sells  gift items for  kids and children. I believed they have a business liability insurance for the security of their business. This Luxor's Kids shop is located  on the atrium level near the escalator that leads to the casino.

If you have children left at home, this can be a good place for you to buy gift items for them.

I had a great time gallivanting inside this luxury hotel. I wish to visit it again in the future.

The Obelisk Inside Luxor Las Vegas

Fabulous Las Vegas! There are a lot of things to experience in this famous city of Nevada in the United States. One of the things you can do is hotel-hopping. With the different themes and architecture of the hotels in Las Vegas, you will surely feel that you also visit other countries.

Taking for example a visit to Luxor Las Vegas. This pyramid-shaped hotel is named after the city of Luxor in Egypt. It is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is considered to be the third largest hotel in the world and the second largest in Las Vegas after MGM Grand Las Vegas.

The photo you see below is the lobby interior of Luxor. You can see an obelisk inside located at the middle part of the hotel's lobby.

I had a great time during my two months holiday in Las Vegas almost four years ago. Time passed-by so fast nowadays. I feel like I was only there last year.

Experience in Luxor, Las Vegas

I never forgot this experience I had in Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. When you see the second image below, you will have an idea about it. I just want to descent to the 1000 foot, level 10 in Luxor. It seems that you are inside an elevator and it bring you down. While descending, the machine keeps on sharing. Ther were only three of me. As we where already down under, it was so dark...somebody announce to the speaker that if someone cannot bear it, just raise you hand. It seems that there was earthquake that time with different lights flashings and I can't really handle it. I feel so dizzy and feel like throwing..I immediately raised my hands, signaling to stop it. I ran immediately to the cr and after that, you know what i mean...i felt better....I will never do that again. It was quite adventurous and exciting but I can't handle it.

Designed by hotel architect Veldon Simpson and interior designer Charles Silverman, the Luxor has received recognition as being among the most recognizable hotels on the strip because of its unique design. The main portion of the hotel is a 365-foot (111 m)-high, 30-story pyramid encased in 11 acres of dark bronze glass. The guest rooms are situated on the outer walls of the pyramid and are reached by riding in "inclinators" that travel along the inner surface of the pyramid at a 39-degree angle. The hotel also features a 29 million cubic feet (820,000 m³) atrium, which was the largest open atrium in the world when it was built in 1993. The hotel is marked by a 140-foot (43 m)-high obelisk and a 110-foot (34 m)-tall re-creation of the Great Sphinx of Giza. wikipedia.

The tip of the pyramid contains a fixed-position spotlight that points directly upward and is claimed to be the brightest beam in the world at over 42.3 billion candle power. The light is created by 39 Xenon lamps which use computer designed curved mirrors to collect the light and focus it into one intense beam. According to the Luxor website, “engineers say that an astronaut could read a newspaper by Luxor’s Sky Beam from ten miles into space” and “on a clear night, the Sky Beam is visible up to 250 miles away to an airplane at cruising altitude. more here.

Luxor Galleria, Las Vegas

First of all I would like to great everyone a Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year too! The holiday season is just around the corner. I believed most of you had already packed your gifts to your family, friends and loveones. Anyone who had wrapped kitchen utensils as presents? Yes, I did! especially to friends who love to cook.

If you are in Las Vegas, you can also try to go shopping at Luxor Galleria, the shopping mall in Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. I only did a window shopping here. I also remember that I bought some travel souvenirs in this mall. You feel like you are in Egypt when you visit this pyramid-shaped hotel. For sure, you will love it like I do.

Last Glimpse of the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas

This is one of the last pictures I took inside Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Luxor, I am not talking about Luxor in Egypt here but about Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas, is also the last hotel I visited before I flew back to Europe. I felt like visiting Luxor in Egypt every time I go inside this hotel. Take a look at it below!
photo I took during my vacation in Las Vegas last 2008

The Luxor is located on the southern end of the Las Vegas Strip, opposite the McCarran International Airport. The resort is flanked by the Mandalay Bay to the south and by the Excalibur to the north; all three are connected by free express and local trams. All three properties were built by Circus Circus Enterprises, which later became Mandalay Resort Group.

When it opened on October 15, 1993, the pyramid was the tallest building on the strip and took 2 years to build and a total of 968 workers; it cost $375 million to build. A theater and two additional hotel towers totaling 2,000 rooms were added in 1998 for $675 million. In June 2004, the Mandalay Resort Group was purchased by MGM Mirage, adding this hotel to its vast array of properties on the "Strip". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxor_Las_Vegas

Discover Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas

Have you been to Luxor in Egypt? Have you been to Luxor in Las Vegas? I believed I can answer these questions. First, I haven't been to Luxor in Egypt but I had already visited Luxor in Las Vegas. The Luxor Las Vegas is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It looks like a pyramid with a total of 4,407 rooms. Imagine how these rooms were built inside that huge pyramid hotel? I'll show it to you. This hotel was made after the city of Luxor or Ancient Thebes in Egypt. It was opened last Oct. 15, 2003. Three years later, that was the time I visited Las Vegas. Here are some pictures I took during my visit.

I was truly amazed by the architectural design of this hotel! It seems that I was also in real Luxor in Egypt the time I visited it.

Travel and Discover Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas

Haven't seen yet what's inside of Luxor Hotel or how does this hotel look like from inside? I am just sharing some pictures for you to see it. As usual, I took this personally last 2008.

When the resort opened, it featured a river that encircled the casino with a ferry that would carry guests to different parts of the pyramid. After guests complained that the ferry service took too long, it was turned into the Nile River Tour, a river ride that passed by many pieces of ancient artwork. Most of the ancient Egypt theme and the river ride were taken away as part of a campaign to tailor the property towards more upscale tastes in 1995.

The resort has been home to some popular entertainment attractions in the Las Vegas area. The main level featured the nightclub, RA, which closed indefinitely on July 22, 2006. From 2000 to 2005, the Luxor Theatre was the home of the enormously popular performance-art show Blue Man Group, which has since moved to The Venetian. On February 15, 2006, the main theater became the home of the musical Hairspray which ran until 2006. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxor_Las_Vegas

Watching 3D Movie in Luxor Imax Theatre

How would you love to watch a movie in a luxurious hotel like Luxor in Las Vegas. I am not so sure now if this theatre still exist. Last July 2008 during my Vegas vacation, we were still able to watch a movie here. I believed IMAX is now hosting a human bodies exhibition. I also heard that IMAX theater houses now an exhibition on the RMS Titanic. It means that the theatre is gone now and was replaced with these exhibitions.

Here is a picture you can see when entering this former theatre. I am not so sure now if it is still the same. I took this photo during my vacation in Vegas.

Watching 3D Film in Luxor Imax Theatre

Good morning! I should be going to bed right now but I would like to share first about an experience in Las Vegas. It was a good one but I guess not for me. We watched a 3D film in Luxor Imax Theatre in Luxor Hotel with my sister and her hubby. The film was good but due to the motion sickness that I have and my eyes got very painful, I got a headache after watching it. I even felt sick and have to go to the restroom after it. Another thing, I am happy for my sister there because she already found a low cost health insurance for her and his hubby. Getting a cheap insurance with good service and lots of privilege is very important especially in times of emergency. I wish to chat next time with my sister again in Las Vegas. Have a great weekend guys! just enjoy watching my photos here!

Walking at Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas

I have been in Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas for I guess around five times. We also always passed this hotel everytime we go to Las Vegas strip. Don't you know that the only light that you can see in the space is the one that is coming from Luxor? amazing! My sister in Las Vegas told me about it. As you can see in the photo, I am truly enjoying my escapades in Las Vegas! I also browse the net to find info about Luxor's spotlight...keep reading!
that's me having fun in Luxor, Las Vegas

The Spotlight in Luxor

The tip of the pyramid contains a fixed-position spotlight that points directly upward – it is the brightest beam in the world, and is visible from anywhere in the Las Vegas valley at night, and can be seen at flight level from above Los Angeles, California, over 275 miles (440 km) away. At ground level, on clear nights, the beam could also be seen as far south as Laughlin and even as far north as Mesquite or Beatty. It is directly straight ahead on US-93 in Arizona, north of Kingman, before reaching the Hoover Dam. In the spring, the bright light attracts huge numbers of moths into the light beam, creating a phenomenon that has been likened to snow. Light is generated using 39 Xenon lamps of 7 kilowatts each. The hourly cost, including lamps, electricity, and repairs, is US$51 — roughly two weeks' worth of electricity for the average American household. The total light output is rated at 41.5 gigacandela, or 30.2 billion lumens. Hotel engineers, as well as the hotel's own website also claim that the light can be observed from space.
