With half term over and the summer holidays looming, finding things to do to entertain the kids is of paramount importance. Wherever you are in the UK, getaways to English seaside resorts are always a great idea to keep smiles on the little ones’ faces.
Take Blackpool, for example. It really has something for everyone with never a dull moment. It’s not quite time for the infamous illuminations (August – November), but there’s so much to be getting on with in the meantime.
For the thrill seekers amongst you, Blackpool Pleasure Beach is an ideal first port of call. Rollercoasters galore, including the Pepsi Max Big One (be warned, it’s high!), it really is fun for all the family – especially since the addition of Nickelodeon Land – 6 acres of fun for kids of all ages (including the ones young at heart).
A visit to Blackpool Tower is also recommended. Inspired by the 1899 Parisian work of art, the Tower stands at 518 foot tall and offers fabulous panoramic views as well as a circus, a ballroom and one of Europe’s largest indoor adventure playgrounds – Jungle Jims – an ideal way to wear the kids out and make sure they sleep well.
Check out the award winning Gorilla Mountain at Blackpool Zoo, or for the slightly older, there’s the Blackpool Dungeons and Madame Tussards Waxworks – what better way to spend a day than to be scared silly by dungeon antics and authentic wax models of real people…

Don’t forget that it isn’t all about fun filled days – take some time to relax with some good ol’ English grub – a family pub or a bag of fish and chips on the promenade.
If you’re not familiar with the area, or you are travelling quite a distance, the Travelodge hotels in Blackpool are central to all amenities and an ideal base for a fun-filled British holiday.
